Royal Wedding Window

Hi everyone,

I must say, I have been excited about this post for a long time - since Kate and Will got engaged in November in fact.

Yes, it's my Royal Wedding Window! I have been pulling together ideas for some time and literally bursting to put it up! It's now up and yesterday we took some lovely shots (as well as some great new shots of the boutique which I will use on my website and share very soon).

The window is centred around the theme 'What will Kate wear' and I have been very fortunate to have had the help from some great local suppliers. The Allium Design Company supplied the red, white and blue flowers including the very regal candelabre which looks fab and my royal wedding cake was supplied by The Little Thatcham Cake Company who's cakes I must say as out of this world! Thank very much to them.

I really hope you like the shots. Come down and see it for yourself!

Have a good Easter all. We will be closed Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday but open Saturday as usual. Next week the same - closed for the Royal Wedding (sadly my invite must be in the post but we will be watching at home !) open Saturday 30th for some Royal Wedding post gossip and then closed Bank Holiday Monday!

Templars Barn Wedding Show

Hi everyone,

Just back from a day off yesterday. Took Mr Jones to a spa to celebrate his birthday! It was actually on Sunday but as he was helping me out at the Templars Wedding Show, I felt I owed him! Anyway, great day, relaxing spa and bbq in the evening- perfect!

Thought I would share all from the Templars Wedding Show......

The West Berkshire Wedding Show was held at Templars Barn - just outside Hungerford. It's a great country venue, very rustic, but can be hired out exclusively so you have the whole place and carte blanche to create the wedding of your dreams. It really is a blank canvas and that's its big appeal so you can have anything from a traditional wedding breakfast to your own tea party or hog roast- almost anything goes! You have free reign to organise every last detail here. In fab weather, as it was on Sunday, there is really nothing like it and the views are fantastic too!

So, back to Sunday. There were approx 30 top suppliers in attendance, everything from catering companies to invitation and cake makers and photographers! Mrs Jones Bridal Boutique (and Mr Jones) attended- we dressed the barn and took along a couple of friends to show off, namely Casablanca and Ella who were displayed on mannequins as well as a few other dresses to offer a taste of our collections.

We met lots of lovely local suppliers who we hadn't met before. We enjoyed eating cakes with The Little Thatcham Cake Co (Mr J had 3 - well it was his birthday!!) but they really were out of this world! and it was great to meet so many lovely bride to be from Hungerford, Marlborough, Swindon etc...
We were kept busying chatting to brides and it was nice to hear that many of them had already heard of us and were planning a visit anyway!

The day had clay pigeon shooting (which kept Mr J entertained) and lots of champers and nibbles! A very enjoyable day!

Come back and read the blog again soon - 'Royal Wedding Fever' is gripping us. Our FAB Royal Wedding Window is now up and being photographed tomorrow so will be posted shortly! Bunting at the ready.....

How will I know?

This week I was very honoured to be asked to write a 'guest blog post'.
Lesley from 'Memories Thru a Lens' http://www.memoriesthrualens.com/ a local Newbury based photographer, asked me to write a few words for her newly revamped website. Lesley's photos are stunning and her sincere and friendly personality instantly puts you at ease.  As the daughter of a wedding photographer, I like to think I can spot a good one so very honoured to be her guest writer.
I thought I would attempt to answer that age old question:
How will I know?........
Owning a new bridal boutique in Newbury, I often get asked ‘how will I know which dress is THE ONE, Will I just know?’
Many of my clients will try on some fabulous dresses but agonise over which one to choose. The one person you probably want advice from is your other half and of course it’s the one decision you have to make without him. However, if you adopt the stereotypical male attitude to shopping, you’ll probably work out what he would say by asking yourself some very rational questions that never usually pop into the female mindset when shopping!

Being quite an impulsive and emotional person who has recently married an incredibly logical and rational man, I can talk from personal experience and I can only align the decision to that of buying our house - although far less complicated and considerably cheaper!
Location, location location! First of all, think about your venue. Is it a large wedding in a big church or a more intimate hotel ceremony or registry office? This can determine the size of your dress and style ie a fuller skirted tulle dress may look fabulous at a grand church wedding but how will it work in a smaller ceremony room or registry office? If you are getting married aboard, think about the weather and transportation – you’ll soon regret that beautiful silk dress if it’s 35 degrees in the shade and full of creases!
Think about where you are buying the dress. Does that shop make your feel special and will they go that extra mile to help you. Bridal is a competitive business so make sure you are given the VIP experience. The dress is all important but you need to be confident that you are buying from someone who cares about what’s right for you and will let you come back if you are uncertain.
Old versus New . What’s your personal style.  Are you a ‘jeans and trainers’ kind of girl, a feminine girly girl, a Vintage fan,  or somewhere in between? Do you like lots of sparkle and ‘bling’ or do you prefer things plain or natural? Do you have designs on a traditional fairytale wedding or something a little quirky?
Any dress must match your personality – don’t try and be someone else on the day as your fiancĂ© is marrying you for a reason! That’s not to say you shouldn’t have an open mind – very often girls come in wanting a dress that’s ‘not big’ and walk out with one that is 3 layers more than they anticipated! Don’t rule out trying different styles on and take advice from your boutique - they may unleash your inner princess. It’s the one day you can be a little more extravagant than usual!
Budget – If you set yourself a budget, try to stick to it. You will find a range of dresses at all different price points - this is determined by the fabric, detailing and designer. It always helps to have a rough idea in mind and an absolute maximum up your sleeve in case you do see something that you really love and can be pushed up to. Don’t be embarrassed in sharing your budget with your bridal boutique as it is better than them making you feel intimidated in dresses you really cannot afford.
Can you see yourself there? The final and most important criteria is emotional and brings us back to the natural female attitude to shopping.  How does it make you feel? Do you feel special, can you imagine yourself walking down the aisle in it. Does it make you feel a little bit excited and wishing the wedding was tomorrow? Do you want to take it off?
If you still can’t decide but you have narrowed your choice down to a couple, then always sleep on it. You will find yourself day dreaming about one in particular, you will start dreaming about it at night and subconsciously designing your wedding around it ie deciding on colours, bridesmaids dresses, his suit etc. The right decision will come to you and I am a firm believer in ‘gut feel’!
So the answer is no, not all girls get that ‘bolt of lightning’ telling them which dress is THE ONE but if you are like me and your heart sometimes rules your head, take a step back, put yourself in the male psyche for a minute and if the answer still matches your heart – then you know.  And remember, there is far less at stake than buying a house!
The blog is up on Lesley's website http://www.memoriesthrualens.com/blog/ with some new pictures of the boutique that look great so thanks to her for them. Do take a look!
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend
